Why is it so difficult for attorneys contract to find a permanent lawyera I'm mid-level attorney in Los Angeles. After working as an associate at a large company for several years, I stopped, went and started working as a contract lawyer a few years ago. While it was never my intention to continue working as a contract lawyer for too long, I had several opportunities to temp in various areas of good practice both small and large businesses. Most of my positions have been substantive and long-duration missions where I worked on the bulky records and gained great experience in litigation. For the most part, I did the work of a partner, but do not receive benefits. However, I find that many companies will not even consider you for a permanent partner if you have worked on contract (they wrongly assume that you are a flight risk or you do not work background). Unfortunately, in this economy, companies are increasingly hiring time because it's a win-win for them, and Perm positions for mid-levels become harder to find. Any advicea
This economy has no long-term stability to the extent jobs are going. What are your long term goals and what plans do you have in place to achieve these goalsa Do you have experience in the industry on your own, or you are seeking a "good" company so you can have the name recognition in your favora
I guess there are many options you must consider. Whatever your choice may be, you'll never get paid what your worth as you work for someone else.
Best wishes.
