Norfolk Surnames

Norfolk SurnamesWho was the Duke of Norfolk (United Kingdom) for the year 1845-1855a

I'm reasearching my ancestors, and found 1 of them worked the land and stables for the Duke of Norfolk, close to 1840 1850. But because the family came from Ireland their surname may have been modified to run on the field.
I will be grateful for any help in the search.

In fact, he was the "Duke" of Norfolk. There were 2 dukes during this period.

Henry Charles Howard, 13th Duke of Norfolk, KG, PC (August 12, 1791 to February 18, 1856) was an English politician.
He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1827. Between 1829 and 1832 he was a member of the House of Commons for the seat of Horsham. From 1832 to 1841 he was MP for West Sussex. He was also Master of the Horse. In 1842, he left the House of Commons on succeeding his father, Bernard Howard, 12 Duke of Norfolk, as the Duke of Norfolk. In 1848 he was invested as a Knight of the Garter. In 1814 he married Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower, daughter of George Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland.


Henry Granville Fitzalan-Howard, Duke of Norfolk 14 (7 November 1815 to November 25, 1860) was the son of Henry Charles Howard, Duke of Norfolk and 13 Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower. He was returned as a Whig for Arundel in the House of Commons in Britain from 1837 to 1851, and Limerick 1851-1852. He married Augusta Mary Minna Catherine Lyons (1821-1886), daughter of Sir Edmund Lyons (later first Lord Lyon) and Augusta Louisa Rogers June 19, 1839. They had several children:

Norfolk have been and still are Catholics, which might explain their link with Ireland.
